Franco Colapinto, who has been competing in Formula 2 this year, will make his F1 debut with Williams at the Italian Grand Prix this weekend. Williams’ team principal, James Vowles, explained that the decision to replace Sargeant mid-season was difficult but necessary to improve the team’s chances of scoring points in a highly competitive midfield.
Vowles also emphasized the importance of investing in young talent through the Williams Racing Driver Academy, stating that this is a great opportunity for Colapinto to showcase his abilities in Formula 1. He acknowledged the challenge for Sargeant, who has struggled to score points during his time with Williams, and expressed the team’s gratitude for Sargeant’s efforts, vowing to support him in his future racing career.
Logan Sargeant is one of three drivers on the current F1 grid who has not recorded a point this season, alongside the Alfa Romeo drivers Guanyu Zhou and Valtteri Bottas. Over the past two seasons, Sargeant has scored just one point in 36 races.
