“It’s been an emotional time for me to be honest, from shock to sadness to anger and now I’m trying to turn it into motivation going into this week,” Meronk reflected.
The 30-year-old finds himself in a fine run of form after clinching the Irish Open last year, followed up by the Italian Open in May.
However, that didn’t seem enough for captain Luke Donald to select the Pole, who was overtaken by Tommy Fleetwood, Shane Lowry, Justin Rose, Ludvig Aberg, Sepp Straka and Nicolai Hojgaard.
“Obviously it’s a hard one to swallow,” Meronk said. “I thought I’d done enough to be on that team but it is what it is. I wish them good luck and I will just focus on my game and move forward.”
