Mikel Arteta claimed Anthony Gordon’s winning goal in the Magpies’ 1-0 triumph vs. Arsenal was an “absolute disgrace” and “embarrassing” for the league.
Anthony’s 64th-minute goal was given by official Stuart Attwell after 3 separate VAR checks to determine if the ball had gone out of play if Joelinton had fouled Arsenal’s defender Gabriel, and whether the goalscorer was offside.
“We have to talk about how the hell this goal was allowed?”
“I feel embarrassed, it’s an absolute disgrace.”
“For many reasons, it was not a goal!”

After all of those episodes were checked by VAR Andy Madley, the Newcastle goal was awarded, and that ended up being the winning goal, and Arsenal lost for the 1st time in the Premier League since the beginning of the new campaign.
“Incredibly, we have to discuss how the match finished,” Arteta shared. “We have to discuss how the referees gave Newcastle’s goal. I feel ashamed.
“It is an absolute joke the officials awarded this goal. It’s not a valid goal — for a lot of reasons.”
