On Sunday, Bayern Munich, grappling with injuries, announced the signing of fullback Sacha Boey from Galatasaray on a contract that extends until 2028. The 23-year-old, a former French youth international, had previously joined Galatasaray on a four-year deal in 2021 after transferring from Stade Rennais. While the financial details of Boey’s move to Bayern were not disclosed, German media sources reported the deal to be valued at approximately 30 million euros.
Describing Boey as a rapid and physically robust right back who excels in one-on-one situations and covers significant ground each game, Bayern’s sports director, Christoph Freund, expressed confidence that Boey would enhance the team’s defensive quality. Bayern Munich, currently occupying the second spot in the Bundesliga behind Bayer Leverkusen, has been grappling with a growing list of injuries. Defensive mainstays Dayot Upamecano and Konrad Laimer sustained injuries in their midweek victory over Union Berlin and are set to be sidelined for several weeks.
The injury woes continued as defensive midfielder Joshua Kimmich also got injured in the same game. Additionally, defenders Kim Min-jae and Noussair Mazraoui are away on international duty, and right back Bouna Sarr is also nursing an injury. Boey’s arrival is seen as a timely reinforcement to bolster Bayern’s defensive options during this challenging period.
