A heartbreak for the 2019 winner as she suffers injury in the last moment
Bianca Andreescu has withdrawn from the US Open due to injury, the U.S. Tennis Association announced on Saturday.
The nature of the injury hasn’t yet been revealed.
The Canadian was paired to go against Lesia Tsurenko in the first round, but now she will be replaced by a player, who qualified for the field or one, who lost in qualifying.
Andreescu made all the headlines back in 2019, when she clinched the title, defeating Serena Williams in the final. She became the first player to lift the women’s title in her debut outing.
The 23-year-old’s highest rating has been at No.4, but recent struggles have sent her back to No.51.
The US open kicks off on August 28.
