Jeff is labeled as 1 of the finest minds in this game and had been pursued for a long time to manage on a full-time basis. His relationship with Ty and the organization’s fondness for Van Gundy was the major factor to secure him.
Jeff (62) spent the previous 16 seasons as a TV analyst for ESPN before accepting a position with the Celtics in the past summer.
Jeff and the Clippers head coach built a strong relationship as members of the country’s national basketball staff, and Lue wanted to land his friend as part of his staff with the Clips. Jeff coached Ty for a campaign with the Houston Rockets 20 years ago.
Van Gundy had been head coach in the league for 11-plus campaigns with the Knicks and Rockets before landing job on the television.
