The world No. 1 got his easiest win so far in Melbourne

Novak Djokovic breezed into the fourth round of the Australian Open in Melbourne, securing a decisive victory over Tomas Martin Etcheverry with a scoreline of 6-3, 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) on Friday. Unlike his previous matches where he faced second-set challenges, Djokovic encountered no such obstacles against the 30th seed, who had earlier defeated Andy Murray in the first round.

The 24-time Grand Slam winner seized control early in the match, breaking Etcheverry in the sixth game with a remarkable drop shot, capitalizing on his second break opportunity. Djokovic comfortably closed out the set and swiftly broke his opponent again in the second, with Etcheverry struggling to make any headway on the Serb’s serve.

While Etcheverry showed more resilience in the third set, staying neck-and-neck for the first 10 games and even reaching 15-30 on Djokovic’s serve, the defending champion thwarted any comeback attempts. The set eventually went to a tie-break, where Djokovic dominated, claiming a 25-shot rally with a powerful forehand winner and securing the victory with an ace, clinching the match with a score of 6-2 in the tie-break.
