Joel Embiid made a return to the court in style, scoring 34 points and adding nine assists while wearing a protective mask, as the Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Charlotte Hornets 108-98 on Friday night. Embiid, who missed the previous game due to a sinus fracture, received a rousing ovation during player introductions and delivered a dominant performance.

The 76ers improved to 9-16 with their fourth win in five games, fueled by Embiid’s 22 points through the first three quarters and a strong first-quarter surge. Tyrese Maxey contributed to Philadelphia’s hot start, hitting four 3-pointers in the opening period as the team shot 56% from the floor, building an early 18-point lead.
Kelly Oubre Jr. added 22 points for the 76ers, combining with Maxey for eight of the team’s 12 made 3-pointers. Philadelphia’s recent form has them inching closer to a play-in tournament position despite their sub-.500 record.
The Hornets, led by Vasilije Micic’s 20 points, continued their struggles with a fourth consecutive loss and 12 defeats in their last 13 games. The team’s inability to contain Embiid and the Sixers’ perimeter shooting proved costly as they fell further down the standings.
