Folarin Balogun confirmed on Tuesday morning that he will be playing for the US national team, snubbing England in the process.
FIFA has approved the one-time switch of the Reims striker in time for him to feature in the country’s title defense in the Concacaf Nations League and Concacaf Gold Cup in the summer.
Balogun can even go on to represent the country in the 2026 World Cup, co-held by the US, Canada and Mexico, as the national team has struggled to find an appropriate player for the No.9 position.
The 21-year-old has bagged 19 goals in 34 appearance in Ligue 1 and sits sixth in the Golden Boot race. He was brought on loan from Arsenal and will return to the London team at the end of the season.
From there he will most likely search for a new club as Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nkietah are the preferable options for the No.9 role in the Gunners’ squad.
