Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur, who became the first African to reach the Top 10 in the world rankings, will now end the season as high as world No. 2 by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA).
The 28-year-old ranks second only to Polish player Iga Switaek, who has dominated the 2021-22 season and is the highest-ranked African and Arab tennis player in WTA and ATP rankings history.
“What a season it has been, so many emotions, titles, and memories,” delighted Jabeur, who reached the finals at Wimbledon and US Open this year, said. “I was close to making it even bigger, but I know what I have to do to reach higher summits next year!”
Jabeur climbed to the top 100 by the end of 2017, the top 50 by the end of 2020, and the top 10 by the end of 2021.

I wouldn’t go through this rollercoaster without my team and my family by my side: Karim, Issam & Melanie. ❤️ pic.twitter.com/pleIdgnwbO
