The visiting team were without plenty of their key players, as Angel di Maria, Federico Chiesa, Paul Pogba, Alex Sandro and Fabio Miretti were all sidelined with injury. So that gave manager Max Allegri plenty of headaches before the match as he was forced to give the youth player Matias Soule a first-team place.
Juventus were able to break the deadlock with swift counter-attack, but the goal was marred by doubts over possible Adrien Rabiot handball in the build up. VAR Intervened, but despite plenty of checks referee opted not to cancel the goal.
Inter tried to make up for their early blip, but their efforts were parried by a fine defensive display from the visitors.
As the closing minutes loomed large, manager Allegri was seen leaving the pitch before the final whistle. That meant the Italian would have missed the huge row that enrolled between both sets of players, which saw Danilo D’Ambrosio and Leandro Paredes sent off.
