Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios revealed he found himself in a psychiatric ward after having suicidal thoughts, following defeat at the 2019 Wimbledon.
The 28-year-old is no stranger to mental health issues as he has battled depression for a very long time.
In 2019 he went to a London hospital to check his condition after the loss to Rafael Nadal, where he wore compression sleeve on his right arm to cover up the scars.
“I was genuinely contemplating suicide,” Kyrgios said, in comments published by the Australian Broadcasting Corp. “I lost at Wimbledon. I woke up and my dad was sitting on the bed, full-blown crying. That was the big wake-up call for me.
“I was like ‘OK, I can’t keep doing this.’ I ended up in a psych ward in London to figure out my problems.”
The Australian described how his relationship with close ones and relatives deteriorated as a result of heavy alcohol and drugs use.
