Fabio Carvalho opened the scoring for Liverpool after just 10 minutes, capitalizing on poor defending by Casemiro inside the area. Mohamed Salah then set up Curtis Jones for the second goal on 36 minutes with a brilliant piece of individual skill, beating United’s Toby Collyer and delivering a low cross. The third goal came in the 61st minute when Konstantinos Tsimikas pounced on a loose ball after Andre Onana failed to secure Diogo Jota’s first-time shot.
Compared to Liverpool’s great performance, Manchester United had a challenging night. The defeat was compounded by a serious injury to young defender Will Fish, who was stretchered off after a foul on Harvey Blair. This loss followed a defeat to Arsenal, although they did manage a win against Real Betis in between.
Both teams will be looking forward to reintegrating key players who were involved in Euro 2024 and Copa America when they return to training next week.
