Manchester City finished 2023 with five trophies out of six possible. The champions of England and Europe defeated Fluminense 4-0 at the Club World Cup final in Jeddah to win their first such trophy.
After the FA Cup, Premier League and Champions League gold medals, the Citizens lifter the European Super Cup as well, but failed to clinch the Community Shield trophy to make it 6 out of 6 possible trophies in 2023.
Not even a minute had passed in Jeddah when Nathan Ake decided to take a long-range shot, and the ball rebounded off the left post. However, Julian Alvarez was the most alert, creating space to capitalize on the rebound and scoring with his body – 1-0 for Manchester City.
In the 27th minute, the Citizens doubled their lead as Nino attempted to intercept a pass but ended up scoring an unfortunate own goal to make it 2-0 for Manchester City.
Just before the end of the first half, Jack Grealish outran the defense and quickly shot from the edge of the penalty area. The ball was aimed at the right corner, but Fabio made an excellent acrobatic save to deny him.
