Manchester United have secured the signing of Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna in a deal valued at £36.54 million. The 23-year-old has committed to a five-year contract with an option for an additional year.
United chose to pay a slightly higher fee than Zirkzee’s £33.6 million release clause to spread the cost over three years, complying with Profit and Sustainability Rules. This strategic move is part of the club’s financial planning under the new co-ownership of Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who acquired a 27.7% stake in December.

Zirkzee had a standout season with Bologna, scoring 12 goals in 37 appearances and helping the team secure an unexpected place in the Champions League. His journey began at Feyenoord before moving to Bayern Munich in 2017. During his time at Bayern, he had loan spells at Parma and Anderlecht before transferring to Bologna for £7.15 million.
This acquisition marks the first major signing for Manchester United since Ratcliffe’s involvement and highlights the club’s ambition to strengthen their squad with promising talent.
