Manchester United have appointed Ruben Amorim as their new head coach, marking a significant change for the club. The 39-year-old Portuguese manager, who will join from Sporting CP on 11 November, has agreed to a contract that will keep him at Old Trafford until June 2027. Amorim, known as one of Europe’s brightest young managers, brings a dynamic approach to United as they look to regain competitiveness at the top level.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, who stepped in as interim manager after Erik ten Hag’s dismissal on Monday, will continue to lead the team for the next three matches. His tenure will bridge the gap until Amorim’s arrival, ensuring some continuity as United transitions to their new head coach.
Manchester United’s statement praised Amorim as “one of the most exciting and highly rated young coaches in European football.” Sporting CP also released a statement, confirming that United activated Amorim’s €11 million (£9.25 million) release clause. Amorim’s debut match with United is scheduled for 24 November in a Premier League game against newly promoted Ipswich Town. He will then make his home debut in the Europa League against Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt on 28 November, followed by a league fixture against Everton.
The club has yet to announce who will join Amorim’s coaching staff at United, with further details expected soon. This appointment makes Amorim the sixth permanent manager at Old Trafford since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013, reflecting United’s ongoing search for stability and success post-Ferguson.
