Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe claims a “mentality issue” prevented him from finding his best form at the beginning of the campaign.
The French star joined Los Blancos on a free transfer in the past summer after leaving PSG. But Mbappe struggled in the 1st months after his move, at 1 point netting just 3 times in 11 matches.
That run featured penalty misses vs. Liverpool in the UCL and Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish championship, with his team losing both games.
Kylian admitted he felt at “rock bottom” after missing the penalties, but a shift in his mindset has led to 4 goals in the last 3 matches he played.
“For me, it was a mentality problem, and that was when I realized I wasn’t doing enough,” shared the French superstar.
“I focused more than was required on how to do things. Whether to go into space to the Vinicius area of the pitch or to Rodrygo’s area. When you have those thoughts, you can’t focus on showing your skills on the pitch.”
Mbappe added that he was alright physically and with his teammates and couldn’t do any worse, so when you hit rock bottom, you can only rise.”
🗣️ Kylian Mbappé: “Neymar’s words? I have nothing to say. I’m focused on what I’m doing here in Madrid. I have a lot of respect for Neymar. I want to remember the good things about him, of a unique player in the history of football. Good luck to him & his family.” @TNTSportsBR pic.twitter.com/GrUQ1MSzhE
