He plans to play only one tournament before US Open

Novak Djokovic will not take part in the Masters tournament in Toronto. He revealed the news this himself in an interview with the Serbian website Sportklub. For the moment, the world No. 2 plans to play only one tournament before the US Open – the Cincinnati Masters between August 13 to 20.

“I’m still motivated to play hard for the rest of the season, with the US Open as well as the Davis Cup as my next big target. These will be the two most important tournaments for me until the end of the year. I hope to be healthy, strong and well-prepared to be able to fight for another Grand Slam title,” announced the Serbian.

Djokovic was unable to play at the US Open last year because of the local government’s ban on the entry of unvaccinated people with the COVID-19 vaccine. In the spring, however, the emergency health measures were lifted and the Serbian will have a chance to fight for a fourth title in New York.

“I’m happy to be back at the US Open. I have had the most success on hard courts, although grass has also become my favorite surface in the last 5-6 years. However, if you take into account all my tournaments, the most successful surface for me is definitely hard. I’ve played a lot of finals in New York. In the last one I lost to Medvedev, but at the expense of that I got a lot of love from the audience, which didn’t happen often. To this day, I remember that moment fondly, so I would happily go back,” he added.
