Reigning Champions League and La Liga champion Real Madrid wrapped up their pre-season US tour on Tuesday with a 2-1 victory over Chelsea, while AC Milan edged out Barcelona on penalties after a 2-2 draw.
In front of 62,617 spectators at the NFL’s Carolina Panthers home stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, Vinicius Junior made his first start for Real Madrid in their warm-up matches, gearing up for their La Liga opener in 12 days.
Spanish midfielder Dani Ceballos opened the scoring in the 19th minute with a precise right-footed shot into the bottom left corner, putting Real Madrid ahead. Brahim Diaz doubled the lead in the 27th minute with a left-footed strike from a tight angle, slipping the ball just inside the backline and across the empty goal into the far right side. Chelsea’s English striker Noni Madueke responded in the 39th minute with a header from the right side of the six-yard box, but Chelsea couldn’t find an equalizer, leaving the final score 2-1 in favor of Real Madrid.

In another club friendly match, AC Milan and Barcelona played to a 2-2 draw in Baltimore before the Italian side triumphed 4-3 on penalties. Luka Jovic scored in the 10th minute off an assist from Christian Pulisic, and Pulisic himself added to the scoreline in the 15th minute with a goal from a challenging angle on the left side, sending the ball into the top right corner to give Milan a 2-0 lead.
Poland’s Robert Lewandowski pulled one back for Barcelona in the 22nd minute and later equalized in the 58th minute, resulting in a 2-2 draw at the end of regulation. AC Milan ultimately secured the win with a 4-3 victory in the penalty shootout.
