The status of J.J. McCarthy is in question after tests revealed the Minnesota Vikings rookie QB has a tear in the meniscus of his right knee, with an additional information to be provided once the quarterback undergoes a procedure in the upcoming days.
BREAKING: #Vikings rookie first-round pick J.J. McCarthy has been diagnosed with a TORN MENISCUS & will need surgery, according to head coach Kevin O’Connell.
Wow….
Just awful for Minnesota, who has been extremely impressed by McCarthy’s development in camp pic.twitter.com/8qjNKDdGV2

Minnesota manager Kevin O’Connell revealed the injury today, claiming it happened during the past weekend’s 24-23 preseason win against the Raiders. J.J. threw the 2nd of his 2 TD passes on his final possession and left only after he completed the 30 snaps the head coach planned for him to play.
The rookie QB of the Vikings didn’t share about any pain or soreness until reporting it yesterday to the medical staff.
Medical staff will decide during the procedure whether J.J. needs a trim of the meniscus — which could allow him to return in the upcoming campaign – or a full repair that could sideline him until the next season.
Minnesota manager claimed that this would be a totally medical decision.
