Stephen Curry scored 33 points and dished out eight assists, while Draymond Green delivered an all-around performance with 21 points, 11 assists, six rebounds and six steals as the Golden State Warriors secured a hard-fought 117-113 victory over the short-handed San Antonio Spurs in a crucial late-season Western Conference matchup.
Despite a shaky start, the Warriors rallied from behind, narrowing the halftime deficit to eight points. They then seized control of the game by embarking on a decisive 14-0 run to open the third quarter, ultimately claiming the lead for good.
San Antonio mounted a late comeback, cutting the deficit to 113-111 with under a minute remaining, thanks to a spirited effort from Victor Wembanyama, who contributed six points in a 9-0 Spurs run. However, Klay Thompson‘s clutch second-chance 3-pointer and a free throw from Green in the closing seconds ensured the Warriors’ victory.
The Warriors extended their winning streak to four games, all on the road, and now sit two games ahead of Houston in the race for the 10th spot in the Western Conference standings, securing the final spot in the play-in tournament with just eight games remaining. Thompson chipped in with 13 points, while Brandin Podziemski and Moses Moody contributed 12 and 10 points, respectively. However, the Warriors were without Jonathan Kuminga due to knee tendinitis for the third consecutive game.
For the Spurs, Wembanyama led the scoring charge with an impressive 32 points and nine rebounds, while Cedi Osman added 18 points. Zach Collins and Malaki Branham each contributed 13 points, with Tre Jones and Sandro Mamukelashvili adding 12 points apiece. San Antonio, playing without starters Devin Vassell and Jeremy Sochan, as well as key reserve Keldon Johnson, fought valiantly but ultimately fell short.
Despite trailing early in the game, the Warriors mounted a comeback, fueled by a remarkable 14-0 run in the third quarter, highlighted by Green’s nine points and a timely 3-pointer from Curry. Golden State carried an 89-81 lead into the final quarter, maintaining control of the game.
