The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and OT Tristan Wirfs have reached an agreement on a 5-year, 140.63 million dollar deal extension that makes him the highest-paid offensive lineman in National Football League history.
The contract features over 88 million dollars guaranteed, the most guaranteed money for any OT in the NFL.
Tristan, a 3-time Pro Bowler, was in the final season of his rookie deal and slated to play under the 5th-year option that paid over 18 million dollars this season. Wirfs is now contractually tied to the Bucs through 2029.
His 28.1 million dollar salary passes the 28 million dollars per season that the Lions’ Sewell secured a few months ago.
The lineman reported to a mandatory minicamp last month but did not participate so as not to risk injury. Tampa Bay manager Todd Bowles revealed a few days ago that the team and Tristan were close to securing a deal.
