World number one Jannik Sinner has accepted a three-month suspension from tennis after reaching a settlement with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) over his two positive drug tests from last year.
The 23-year-old Italian, who recently won the Australian Open, will be suspended from February 9 to May 4, making him eligible to compete in the French Open, which begins on May 19.

WADA, which initially appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) after Sinner was cleared, acknowledged that his positive test for clostebol resulted from inadvertent contamination by his physiotherapist. The agency stated that Sinner “did not intend to cheat,” that the banned substance provided “no performance-enhancing benefit,” and that the incident was caused by “negligence of members of his entourage.”
Despite clearing Sinner of deliberate wrongdoing, WADA emphasized that under anti-doping regulations, athletes are responsible for the actions of their teams. Given the circumstances, the three-month ban was deemed an appropriate resolution.
