"The King" is still technically a free agent, despite rumors he will sign new contract with Lakers

Since the beginning of July, all NBA teams have the opportunity to negotiate with free agents from other teams, leading to many deals.

There are a lot of free agents, but who are the most interesting profiles on the market as of today? Here is the top six list:

  1. LeBron James

“The King” is technically still a free agent after declining his one-year contract option worth $51.4 million, but is expected to stay with Los Angeles, making a financial compromise to allow the Los Angeles Lakers to acquire at least one new addition.

  2.  DeMar DeRozan

The Chicago star is one of the most rumored names for the Lakers’ roster. Over his three years with the Bulls, he averaged 25.5 points per game. Despite nearing 35 years of age, DeRozan shows no signs of retiring soon and is still considered one of the best mid-range shooters.

  3. Tyus Jones

The Washington guard is one of the most underrated players in the NBA as he finished last year with 12 points and 7.3 assists per game, shooting over 41% from three-point range.

  4. Gary Trent Jr.

The Toronto guard may need to change his mind on his financial demands in order to sign for a top team, as he averaged 13.7 points per game last season compared to 17.4 and 18.3 points in the previous two seasons. Still, at only 25 years old and with a 39.3% success rate from three-point range, he remains a valuable player.

  5. Buddy Hield

Only Stephen Curry has made more three-pointers (1,618) than Buddy Hield (1,600) in the last five seasons. This is why Hield is seeking a contract worth around $20 million per season, although this is quite high for a player who struggles defensively and can’t contribute consistent performance.

  6. Malik Beasley

The guard started as a regular in 77 games for Milwaukee last season, being one of the top three-point shooters in the league (41.3%). The 27-year-old is looking for a contract between $10 million and $20 million, but the number of teams able to offer such amounts is not that long.
