Kylian Mbappe and Mohamed Salah both missed penalties, but The Reds got their fifth win in as many rounds

Liverpool claimed an impressive 2-0 victory over Real Madrid in a thrilling UEFA Champions League encounter at Anfield on Wednesday night. Goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo secured the win, as Arne Slot’s side continued their perfect start to the competition. Despite Liverpool’s dominance, the match was filled with drama, including missed penalties by Kylian Mbappe and Mo Salah in the second half.

The first half saw Liverpool pressing hard, but Thibaut Courtois kept Real Madrid in the game with a stunning save to deny Darwin Núñez. After the break, the Reds raised their intensity, and Mac Allister opened the scoring in the 52nd minute, finishing a one-two with Conor Bradley with a precise low shot into the far corner.

Real Madrid had a chance to equalize, but Caoimhin Kelleher denied Mbappe from the penalty spot. Moments later, Salah failed to capitalize on a penalty opportunity, hitting the post. Liverpool sealed the win in the 76th minute when substitute Gakpo headed Andy Robertson’s cross into the far corner.

The victory puts Liverpool at the top of the UEFA Champions League standings with a flawless five wins from five matches, while Real Madrid, struggling in the competition, sits far below in 23rd place. Liverpool now turns their attention to a pivotal Premier League clash against Manchester City at Anfield, while Real Madrid will host Getafe in La Liga.
