Ibrahima Konate equalized in the 23rd minute with a powerful header from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s free-kick, after Mohamed Salah had already hit the crossbar. Salah hit the bar again, but Virgil van Dijk put Liverpool ahead just before half-time with a close-range header from a Konstantinos Tsimikas corner.

In the second half, Cody Gakpo’s impressive run led to a perfectly timed pass for Dominik Szoboszlai to score a simple tap-in in the 67th minute, securing the win for Liverpool. Federico Chiesa, a summer signing, made his brief debut by replacing Salah in stoppage time.
