Inter Miami won 3-2 and secured home advantage throughout the postseason playoffs

Lionel Messi scored twice in Inter Miami’s 3-2 victory over Columbus Crew, helping the team secure the MLS Supporters’ Shield for the first time in the club’s history. Messi opened the scoring with a close-range finish and added a second in first-half stoppage time with a brilliant free-kick.

Despite Columbus Crew’s Diego Rossi cutting the lead, former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez restored Miami’s two-goal advantage before Cucho Hernandez’s penalty made for a tense finish.

This victory ensures Inter Miami will finish the regular season at the top of the table, clinching the Supporters’ Shield, awarded to the MLS team with the best record. The title marks Messi’s 46th career trophy, adding another accolade to his illustrious career.

With the win, Miami secures home advantage throughout the postseason playoffs. Messi expressed his satisfaction with the achievement, saying, “The first objective has been achieved, and now we have to think about what’s next.”

Miami now has the chance to set an MLS record for most points in a regular season with two wins from their remaining league matches. The current record is 73 points, held by the New England Revolution from 2021.
