The Oakland Athletics shared their interim plan on Thursday, revealing intention to play in West Sacramento, California, starting in 2025 as they await the completion of their new stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The announcement detailed that the A’s will use Sutter Health Park, currently the home of the Minor League Baseball team Sacramento River Cats, for the duration of the 2025-2027 seasons. This move comes amidst challenges in securing a long-term stadium solution in Oakland, where the team has been based since 1968.
A’s owner John Fisher expressed regret over the inability to extend their lease in Oakland, despite efforts to negotiate with the city. “Even with the long-standing relationship and good intentions on all sides in the negotiations with Oakland, the conditions to achieve an agreement seemed out of reach,” Fisher explained in a statement.
Fisher assured that the team would honor and celebrate their legacy in Oakland throughout the final season in the city. Additionally, Fisher extended gratitude to the Kings and the City of West Sacramento for facilitating the temporary relocation.
The decision to move to Las Vegas was first announced in April of the previous year and received unanimous approval from MLB owners in September.
