Dorival Junior has stepped down from his coaching position at Sao Paulo, as he is set to take over from Fernando Diniz as the head coach of the Brazil national team. Diniz had been the interim coach of the Seleção following the departure of Tite.
Dorival Junior took charge of Sao Paulo in April last year and led the team to their first-ever Copa do Brasil trophy with a 2-1 aggregate victory over Flamengo in both legs.
His debut at the helm of Brazil is scheduled for March, where he will lead theteam in friendly matches against Spain and England. The Brazilian national team is facing a challenging situation, having suffered three defeats in six World Cup qualifying matches, currently occupying the sixth position in the standings.
