Mbappe opened the scoring for the champions, but limped off injured before the break

Atalanta put up a valiant fight but fell 3-2 at home to Real Madrid, with Mateo Retegui missing a crucial chance to equalize late in the game.

Real Madrid struck first when Kylian Mbappé scored with a precise shot into the bottom corner after receiving a pass from Brahim Diaz. It was only the second goal Atalanta had conceded in the competition this season.

Moments later, Mbappé nearly added a second but was denied by Marco Carnesecchi. Unfortunately for Real Madrid, Mbappé left the game with an injury in the 36th minute and was replaced by Rodrygo.

Atalanta equalized just before halftime when Aurelien Tchouaméni clipped Sead Kolasinac’s heel inside the box, leading to a penalty. Charles De Ketelaere converted with a confident strike into the top corner.

Real Madrid regained the lead in the second half through a fortunate sequence. A deflection off two Atalanta players sent the ball to Vinicius Junior, who capitalized on the opportunity.

Minutes later, Jude Bellingham extended the lead with a brilliant individual effort, cutting inside Marten de Roon and finishing with a curling shot into the far corner.

Atalanta fought back when Ademola Lookman scored from a tight angle, drilling the ball past Lucas Vazquez and into the near bottom corner. The hosts continued to press for an equalizer, but Matteo Ruggeri’s effort went over, and Thibaut Courtois made a crucial save to deny Mateo Retegui at the near post.
