Shai Gilgeous-Alexander revealed he spent the whole day thinking about OKC’s postseason elimination from Dallas in the past spring and then singlehandedly outscored Mavs’ star duo.
Shai’s 39-point match resulted in a OKC’s 118-104 victory against the Dallas Mavericks in an NBA Cup ¼ final – securing his team’s ticket to Las Vegas, where they will face today’s Warriors – Rockets winner in a ½ final at the beginning of the weekend – was the kind of performance that rightfully will have people put him in the MVP conversations.
But the Oklahoma City superstar praised some of his teammates – Luguentz Dort and Cason Wallace – for him to be able to score more than Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving combined. The Mavs duo finished the game with 33 points.
“What a phenomenal performance by Lu and Cason,” Gilgeous-Alexander revealed. “It is harder what they did in defense against Doncic and Irving than for me to score almost 40 points. We controlled the match because of the way they played against the Mavs superstars. Shutting down Luka and Kyrie is very rare.”
"Going to crash the glass offensively, boxing out, diving on loose balls…"
