Djokovic, who was aiming to match Roger Federer’s record of eight Wimbledon titles, become the oldest Grand Slam winner in the Open era, and surpass Margaret Court’s record of 25 Grand Slam wins, was unable to withstand Alcaraz’s powerful serves and athletic prowess.
The match started with a grueling first game, lasting 14 minutes, which Alcaraz won by breaking Djokovic’s serve. Alcaraz continued to dominate the set, taking it 6-2 in just 41 minutes, backed by a comfortable hold and his fastest serve of the tournament at 136mph. The second set followed a similar pattern, with Alcaraz breaking Djokovic’s serve twice and winning 6-2.
The third set was more competitive, with Djokovic finding his rhythm and putting up a stronger fight. Despite being broken by Alcaraz’s impressive backhand pass, Djokovic saved three championship points at 0-40 to break back and push the set into a tie-break.
