The home team needed only 5 minutes to score the opening goal in the match. Jean-Philippe Mateta netted in the 5th minute after an assist from his former teammate at Crystal Palace and Bayern Munich player from the next season – Michael Olise.
The result remained unchanged until the 84th minute when Michael Olise himself doubled the French team lead, but after a long VAR review, the goal was disallowed because of a foul in the build-up play. Because of that, the referee gave 10 minutes of additional time that gave Javier Mascherano’s side hope. However, the host nation kept the result that was enough for a semifinal spot.
