Spain and Barcelona midfielder Gavi tore his ACL in the match against Georgia and the serious injury will see him miss the rest of the season, as well as Euro 2024 and the Paris Olympics.
Gavi has a long break ahead of him, as he will not be able to be in the Barcelona squad until September 2024. This means he will miss the opening rounds of the 2024/205 season as well.
The Spanish Football Association, in agreement with the coach, decided that Gavi will not be part of the national team until March 2025, when the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup begin.
Some media in Spain claim that with this decision of the Football Association, they want to at least slightly reduce the dissatisfaction and anger that reign in the Barcelona football club. According to them, Gavi should not have been on the field at all in the match with Georgia.
Because of Gavi’s injury, Barcelona should receive around €4,000,000 from FIFA, according to the rules.
