Both players were heavily criticized, but were crucial for a 1-0 win over Copenhagen

Old Trafford saw yet another crazy European night in Champions League as Manchester United beat Copenhagen 1-0 in their third round group stage game.

Harry Maguire, who was constantly criticized about his performance since joining the club scored the winner and Andre Onana, who was also very shaky in his first months as United player, saved a penalty in the dying seconds of the game.

Copenhagen came very close to scoring in the 5th minute. The Danes organized a very good counterattack through Mohamed Elyounoussi who crossed into the penalty area, where Diogo Gonzalves shot a volley, but the ball rattled the left side post of Andre Onana’s goal.

Victor Claesson then fought for the ball in the Manchester United penalty area and passed it to Mohamed Elyounoussi, who shot but Amrabat was able to block his shot and the ball went out for a corner.

Camille Grabara made a superb save in the 54th minute when Rasmus Hojlund passed to Christian Eriksen who shot but Grabara dived to make the save. Manchester United took a 1-0 lead in the 72nd minute.

Christian Eriksen crossed into the Copenhagen penalty area where Harry Maguire was left unmarked and headed the ball past Camille Grabara from close range.

In the fourth minute of stoppage time, referee Marco Guida awarded Copenhagen a penalty after Scott McTominay fouled Mohamed Elyounoussi. The VAR confirmed the referee’s decision and Jordan Larsson took the penalty, firing into the left corner, but Andre Onana saved to send Old Trafford into madness.

With the three points, Man United jumped to second place in the group – one behind Galatasaray and six away from the leader Bayern Munich.
