J.B. emerged from a field of several candidates to secure the position under the new president of basketball operations, Trajan Langdon. The new head coach ushered the Cavs through a rebuild, winning 99 regular-campaign matches in the past 2 years. Bickerstaff led Cavaliers to the East Conference postseason in straight seasons – including a conference ½ finals in the past campaign. Cleveland fired J.B. after the campaign, appointing Kenny Atkinson.
Detroit will be the manager’s 4th head-coaching job, including periods with the Rockets, Grizzlies, and the Cavs. Pistons dismissed manager Monty Williams after a league-worst 14-68 campaign, in his 1st year in a 6-year, almost 79 million dollar deal. Chiefs also moved on from GM Troy Weaver, appointing Langdon.
