This is the third year in succession these two meet in the Champions League and all of the encounters went Real’s way.
Of the three this was perhaps the most one-sided and was more or less decided after the Merseyside team were demolished in the first leg at Anfield 5-2, having led 2-0 early on.
Liverpool started the match with 4 strikers in hope of creating a historic comeback, one that would have sparked memories of their 4-0 win against Barcelona in 2019 semis.
But a comeback was never really on the cards, as in fact it was the team from Madrid that was the more aggressive one. Shots from Vinicious and Eduardo Camavinga were magnificently saved by Alisson.
Liverpool did have one chance with Darwin Nunez in the 6th minuted, but the Uruaguayan striker was unable to find the back of the net.
In the second half, Liverpool looked even further away from reaching Thibaut Courtois goal and the ineviteble happened in the 78th minute, when Karim Benzema sloted home a Vinicious pass and put the tie beyond Liverpool brightest hopes.
The Merseyside team will now focus on their home duties, where they find themselves in a tricky fight for a top 4 spot after succumbing to a disappointing 1-0 loss to Bournemouth over the weekend.
