3-3 draw between the two sides in Spain before the return leg in a week time

In a thrilling encounter at the Bernabeu, Champions League holders Manchester City and Real Madrid played out a six-goal spectacle, leaving their quarter-final finely balanced after the first leg.

Pep Guardiola’s side took an early lead in the second minute when Bernardo Silva cleverly curled a 25-yard free-kick around the wall and past Andriy Lunin.

Real Madrid, 14-time European Cup winners, drew level with two deflected strikes. Eduardo Camavinga’s long-range effort took a deflection off Ruben Dias before finding the back of Stefan Ortega’s net. Shortly after, Rodrygo capitalized on a defensive lapse from City and scored via Manuel Akanji’s heel.

Despite City’s dominance in possession, they struggled to find a cutting edge until Phil Foden intervened. The England midfielder, relatively quiet until then, found space outside the area and unleashed a stunning strike into the top corner to bring City level.

Not long after, left-back Josko Gvardiol, cut inside and rifled a right-footed shot into the far corner to put City ahead.

However, Real Madrid responded with a magnificent volley from Federico Valverde to equalize, setting up an enticing second leg at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday, April 17.
