Uruguay edged Brazil 4-2 in a penalty shootout on Saturday, securing their place in the Copa America semi-finals after a bruising 0-0 draw at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Despite being down to 10 men, Uruguay managed to hold on and advance to face Colombia in the next round.

With Vinicius Jr suspended and watching from the stands, Brazil struggled to create opportunities. The situation should have been in their favor late in the second half when Uruguay’s Nahitan Nandez was sent off, but they couldn’t capitalize on their man-advantage.
In the shootout, Uruguay’s goalkeeper Sergio Rochet saved Brazil’s first penalty taken by Eder Militao, and Douglas Luiz hit the post, giving Uruguay the upper hand.

Although Brazil’s keeper Alisson Becker managed to save a penalty from Jose Maria Gimenez and Gabriel Martinelli scored to keep Brazil in contention, Manuel Ugarte buried the decisive spot-kick, sending Uruguay through as they continue their quest for a record 16th Copa crown.
