USA beat Brazil to win gold in women’s Olympic football

The U.S. women’s national team secured the gold medals.

USA defeated Brazil 1-0 at Parc des Princes and won the gold medals at the Olympic Games in Paris as Emma Hayes secured another big trophy in her coaching career.

The 1st half finished with goals, but Mallory Swanson scored the opening goal in the 57th minute after Korbin Albert’s assist to give the U.S. team the lead.

To reach the match for the gold medal, the U.S. women’s football national team won 5 matches in a row. They got clean victories during the group stage against Zambia, Germany, and Australia but needed extra time during the wins in the ¼ finals against Japan and the ½ finals against Germany.

Brazil, on the other hand, lost 2 matches from 3 during the group phase and advanced to the ¼ finals thanks goal difference as one of the best 3rd teams. After that, however, the South American country eliminated France in the ¼ finals after 1-0 win and trashed Spain 4-2 in the ½ finals to advance to the final.
