England had to suffer but, in the end, won against World Cup co-hosts Mexico 3-2 at Azteca Stadium and will face Norway in the ¼ finals of the tournament.
The clash was delayed by more than an hour due to a storm, and things were dramatic in the game also for England when Jarell Quansah received a red card at the beginning of the 2nd half, but despite that, Tuchel’s side triumphed.
Mexico had been defeated only twice in 89 matches at their Azteca fortress, but England started the match in the best way possible when Jude Bellingham scored 2 goals for less than 100 seconds, but the host nation got back in the game with a goal near the end of the 1st half.
Things could have gone wrong for England when Quansah was sent off, but swiftly after that, they restored their 2-goal lead after captain Harry Kane converted a penalty for a foul against Anthony Gordon.
Not long after that, Kane himself made a penalty after kicking Brian Gutierrez, and Jimenez converted it to make his team’s deficit only a single goal.
In the final minutes of the match, the Three Lions played with 5 defenders, but that worked for Thomas Tuchel, and they won.
A tie that had absolutely everything. A win that means absolutely everything.
