Kylian Mbappé was very disappointed following France’s exit from the European Championship, marking his second consecutive tournament without clinching the title and managing to score only one goal in five matches.
In the semi-final match against Spain, Mbappé chose to remove his protective mask in an attempt to influence the game more effectively. However, his efforts were in vain as he missed two key opportunities in the second half, which he typically would have converted.
🚨🇫🇷 Kylian Mbappé: “In football you’re good or not good. I wasn’t good”.
“My Euro was a failure”.
“I wanted to be European champion… I will now go on holiday, I will rest well, it will do me a lot of good, then I will get ready to start a new life. There’s a lot to do”. pic.twitter.com/9QW45qMPtI

After the match, a candid Mbappé described his tournament as a “failure” and revealed his decision to play without the mask was made with the consent of the French national team’s doctor.
“Spain played better than us. We will have to watch the match again to understand if there really is a significant difference between the two teams,” Mbappé shared. “They scored two quick goals, and in the second half, we had chances to get back into the game, but we couldn’t capitalize on them.”
Addressing his choice to play mask-free, Mbappé said, “I asked the doctor if I could do it, and he told me I could do whatever I wanted. My tournament was a failure. I wanted to be the European champion, but we didn’t make it. That’s football. We have to move forward. It has been a long year, and now I am going on vacation to rest, which will do me a lot of good.”
“I didn’t have any physical or psychological issues. You can’t make football too complicated. Either you are good, or you are not good. I wasn’t good, and we are going home, it’s as simple as that. I need to rest. Then I will move on to a new chapter,” Mbappé concluded.
