The Three Lions triumphed in 8 elimination matches in that time – all other head coaches of the men’s national team in history have triumphed in combined 9.
Gareth became interim head coach of England in the autumn of 2016 after Sam Allardyce was dismissed, before becoming the full-time position a few months later.
The English Football Association will now start the search for a new manager who will lead the Three Lions in the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada.
England’s next match is vs. Republic of Ireland in the UEFA Nations League on September 7th.
Southgate’s first words after leaving the job were: “As a proud Englishman, it has been my greatest honor to play for the Three Lions and later to be the manager of England. It has meant everything to me, and I have given all that I have.”
