Athletic scored late equalizer, but it was ruled off by VAR

Spanish La Liga leader, Barcelona, clinched dramatic 1-0 win over Athletic Bilbao with VAR disallowing a goal for the home side in the final minutes/

Athletic had some great opportunities to score first, but Inaki Williams was denied by Ter Stegen before Raul Garcia’s shot, which crashed off the crossbar.

Just before the half time Barcelona got their goal. Raphina opened the scoring, but the assistant referee raised his flag for offside. VAR checked the attack and stated that everything is fine with the play.


After the break Lewandowski had a chance to double Barca’s lead, but his shot from the penalty box went whiskers wide of the left post. The home side had couple of good chances 20 minutes later, but Iker Muniain and Alex Berenguer were stopped by Ter Stegen, who was on point again.

The home side got their goal two minutes before the final whistle. Inaki Williams wriggled his way through the defensive line and scored, but VAR showed there was a handball in the build-up and disallowed the goal.

Barcelona stays on top of the table with 65 points – nine ahead of Real Madrid.
