Captain Reece James was sent off in the 73 minute

Newcastle trashed 10-men Chelsea 4-1 in their Premier League clash at Saint James’ Park.

The hosts hit the ground running and scored first in the 13 minute. Anthony Gordon took the ball from the left and combined with Joelinton in the arc in front of the box.

The ball got to Alexander Isak behind Chelsea’s defence, and the Swedish striker had time to control the ball, turn and shoot with his right foot.

Ten minutes later, however, Chelsea managed to equalize. Joelinton made a blunder in midfield and allowed the ball to be taken away from him, Raheem Sterling advanced at speed and was fouled outside the box by Kieran Trippier, who also received a yellow card.

It was Sterling who shot  from the direct free kick, beating the wall perfectly and sending the ball into the right corner of Pope – 1:1.

At the hour mark, Newcastle took the lead again. Anthony Gordon got the ball on the left side, cut inside and crossed into the box, where Jamaal Lascelles was at the right place to head the ball into the net.

The Magpies added a third goal less than a minute later, which came after a horrific mistake by Thiago Silva. The Brazilian received a back pass from Palmer and tried to send it back to the keeper, but got confused and let Joelinton take the ball, go one-on-one against Sanchez and leave him no chance in the near corner for 3-1.

Things got even worse for Chelsea in the 73rd minute when they got down to ten men. Reece James mishandled a ball and allowed Gordon to take it away from him, then in his attempt to get it back the defender fouled him. For this action, he received a yellow card, which was his second.

Seven minutes before the end of regular time, Newcastle scored a fourth goal. Substitute Miguel Almiron led Anthony Gordon on the left side in superb fashion with the outside of his left foot. The Englishman advanced, entered the penalty area and fired on the grass between Badiashil and Silva, finding the far corner of Sanchez’s goal for 4:1.
